The mechanical screen selection application was developed in cooperation with PRODEKO-EŁK Sp. z o.o. (ESMIL Group), a world leader in the production of sewage treatment equipment and a supplier of comprehensive technologies in the field of water purification and treatment for various industries.
The proposed application aims to enable quick selection of mechanical screens, which are universal devices used to capture solid contaminants (screenings) from flowing sewage and are used at the first stage of the treatment process.
In a few simple steps, the application will ensure the correct selection of the device in terms of operating parameters and will perform hydraulic calculations. Its aim is to propose the most advantageous solution (screens) that will meet the user’s expectations.
The application is available in Poland.
How to select mechanical screens on the Waterfolder platform?
To perform calculations, it is necessary to provide the following output data.
It is necessary to specify for what type of sewage the screen is selected:
- municipal,
- industrial,
- water intakes,
- rainwater.
The application will then ask for data such as:
- channel dimensions,
- flow through one screen,
- level of sewage behind the screen at a specific flow in front of the screen,
- additional requirements (e.g. material, type of communication with CD),
- power supply parameters.

Principle of operation of a mechanical screen
The principle of operation of a mechanical screen is based on the process of filtration of sewage flowing through the filter grate. Solid waste is separated and deposited on the surface of the lamellas, creating the so-called “filter mat”. The mat additionally retains smaller waste. Moving lamellae, moving eccentrically, transport retained waste to higher levels of fixed lamellae. Thanks to this, waste is transferred to subsequent levels of the fixed grate until it is removed. This process is supported by the counter-current principle, which promotes self-cleaning of the grate, eliminating the need for additional cleaning mechanisms.
