Retention Tank Selection Application
The Retention Tank Selection Application enables civil engineers, drainage designers, and landscape architects to quickly select suitable retention tank solutions in accordance with DWA-A 117. In just a few steps, users can enter project-specific parameters, allowing the application to automatically calculate the required storage volume and recommend appropriate system configurations.
The calculations are based on the defined catchment areas, hydraulic design parameters, and integrated rainfall data (e.g. KOSTRA DWD). This ensures reliable and realistic results for the design of modern stormwater retention systems.
The application available in Germany.
Input Parameters for Retention Tank Design
To correctly size a retention tank, the following project information is required:
- Application type
- Load class
- Controlled discharge flow rate
- Safety factor
- Groundwater level relative to ground level

In addition, all connected catchment areas and their corresponding runoff coefficients must be entered. The application automatically calculates the effective runoff area.
Finally, users select the rainfall model and the design storm return period.
Results
The application provides a tailored product recommendation together with the corresponding calculation results, including:
- Critical storm duration
- Rainfall intensity
- Required retention volume
- Recommended product configuration, including the number of tanks and total storage volume

Download the Calculation Results
Once the calculation is complete, the results can be downloaded as a PDF report and incorporated directly into the project documentation.
Users can also save selected products for future reference or contact the manufacturer directly to obtain additional technical information or request a quotation.
